Alan Bjelinski was born in Zagreb in 1964 into. a family of prominent Croatian musicians. He studied musical conducting under Professor Igor Gjadrov at the Zagreb Music Academy and completed his postgraduate studies in 1990 in the class of Maestro Pavle Despalj in Zagreb. As an award for young conductors from the Lovro Matacic Foundation, he was given the opportunity to study under Michael Gielen at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Bjelinski has been the conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Zagreb Symphony Orchestra, the Choir of Croatian Radio and Television, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the BYU Symphony Orchestra in Provo, Utah and the Udine Philharmonic Orchestra in Italy. From 1991 to 1994 he was the permanent conductor of the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra. He is also active as a composer of chamber music, as well as music for film, theatre, video and television.
