Ante Tomić

Ante Tomic was born in Split, Croatia in 1970. He majored in philosophy and sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar. He works as a professional journalist in the Jutarnji list. For his journalistic work he received the Croatian Journalist Society Marija Juric Zagorka award for the best editorial.

His first collection of short stories Zaboravio sam gdje sam parkirao / I Forgot Where I Parked was published in Split in 1997. The second expanded edition of that collection was published in Zagreb in 2001. In 2000 he published his first novel Sto je muškarac bez brkova / What Is a Man Without a Moustache (editor Hena com), and it has had 7 editions so far. His novel Nista nas ne smije iznenaditi / Nothing Should Surprise Us was published by Fraktura, and in three months it has had three editions and has not left the top place on the best-seller lists.

Together with Ivica Ivanisevic he wrote the script for the movie Posljednja volja / The Last Will, and with Renato Baretic and Ivica Ivanisevic the script for the TV series Novo doba / New Age. The play Krovna udruga, which he wrote with Ivica Ivanisevic, was shown in the Croatian National Theatre in Split. The Croatian National Theatre from Zagreb made a play according to his novel Sto je muskarac bez brkova, adapted and directed by Aida Bukvic, and that play was awarded as the best play overall at Marulicevi dani 2002.

2006. two feature films based on his where produced "Man Without a Moustache" directed by Hrvoje Hribar and "Border Post" directed by Rajko Grlic. Both films received a very high score on Box office lists and where shown and awarded at numerous international film festivals.

The same year his book of essays; "Good Citizen" was the best selling book and received the "Kiklop" award for the most popular book of the year in Croatia.
